4th of July Fun

We started our 4th of July Festivities early this year. The weekend before the holiday, we went to Bellevue Baptist Church for a free concert with Big Daddy Weave and a fireworks show synchronized with the Bellevue Orchestra.

Emily and Eliana had a great time talking to the clowns, getting their faces painted, having balloon swords made, and eating cotton candy. Sarah didn't know what to think about all of the things going on around her.

We had a great time with a picnic of fried chicken, potato salad, and watermelon. The band was AWESOME. Most of us liked the fireworks show while munching on popcorn. Emily and Sarah watched the sky with smiles on their faces. Eliana, however, cried the entire time with her hands over her ears. She has always been scared of fireworks since she was a baby because of the loud noises. I was hoping that she would have outgrown it, but not yet.

Andy's family came down to visit for the actual Fourth of July weekend. We took them to the Pink Palace. We had never been there before and it was really neat. The girls were interested in all of the exhibits, but their favorite one was the new dinosaur exhibit.

The dinosaurs were mechanical, moving and roaring like they were real. Eliana was especially excited and kept jumping up and down every time we came to a new dinosaur.

On the Fourth of July, our church had a celebration in the back with hotdogs, hamburgers, chips, and yummy desserts. There was a HUGE waterslide, but Eliana got to the top and decided it was too high to slide down. Emily had informed me that she would not want to do the waterslide so she hadn't put on her swimsuit. Once we got there, she wished she had worn it, but found other things to do on the playground. Eliana did have fun splashing around in the kiddie pools. Both of the girls got a turn at throwing balls at the dunk tank. Andy and his brothers played volleyball against a couple of our friends.

The big fireworks event that night was put on by our city in the local park, but we could see everything by our church. The girls and their friends all had glow sticks. It was really nice because it wasn't crowded at all. We actually made it out of the parking lot in 20 minutes, compared to the hour or more wait to exit the park.

Happy Fourth of July! I hope everyone had as much fun as we did! I love being an American!
