Reading Fair Projects

The girls completed their Reading Fair projects recently. Emily did one on "Black Beauty".

Eliana did one on "The Adventures of Taxi Dog". She did most of the cutting and all of the gluing and putting on the stickers. I helped with tracing and cutting out the taxi. I was proud of her because it was a big task and we had one day to do it. I thought she'd give up, but she didn't.

They both got participation ribbons. Next year, Emily will be required to turn one in for a grade so I was glad that she got some practice on how to do one.

Storytime Friday

**While the class was at recess, Emily's teacher, Mrs. Nichols, had written the below title on the board and left the room. When they came in, the assistant teacher showed them the board. They had to use the title to write a story.**

WHERE'S MRS. NICHOLS?

Where's Mrs. Quarters? Oops, I meant to say Mrs. Nichols! She's not in the classroom, at least, I don't think so, gulp! I didn't see her in the hallway. She might be out of school, though.

Wait, here she comes! She's getting closer....and closer.....and......it's Mrs. Lawrence.

Is this her right here? No, that's Mrs. Baker, dum, dum dum dum.

Where do you think Mrs. Quarters is, oops?!

**In case you are wondering like I was, the "dum, dum dum dum" is supposed to be suspenseful music. Emily got an A+ with a "This is great! :)" note from Mrs. Nichols.**

Morning Surprise

I carpool with a neighbor so every other morning I walk Emily and Eliana out to the front yard and wait for my neighbor to drive up. Then I help the girls get into the car and walk back into the house. It usually takes two or three minutes depending on how long we have to wait for their car to drive up.

Sarah had woken up this morning before the girls left for school. I didn't want to leave her for too long so I waited until my neighbor drove up. Sarah was sitting on the couch and I told her I would be right back. I walked outside with Emily and Eliana and got them into the car. Since we didn't have to wait, it took about a minute. I turn the knob to go inside and realize that the door is LOCKED.

Sarah has NEVER locked the door before. I didn't realize that she knew how to lock it. The knob turns fine, but the deadbolt is locked. I'm standing outside in freezing weather with no coat, no phone, and no keys.

I start knocking on the door, calling Sarah's name. She comes to the door and tries to open it with the knob. I'm trying to figure out how to get a 2-year-old to understand the word "deadbolt". I kept calling it the "top lock", but she kept turning the knob. After a couple of tries, she walks away.

I'm still standing there, calling her name, begging her to open the door. She sounds like she is in the living room and she keeps saying, "Just a minute!" I am picturing her getting into something like markers and writing all over herself as fast as she can thinking that this is the prime opportunity to get into trouble while I can't get in to spoil her fun.

After 15 minutes (I checked the clock when I got in), she finally came back over and got the deadbolt unlocked for me to come in. She didn't have any writing on her so I'm not sure what she was doing, but I was so glad that she had figured out how to let me in, I didn't think much on what she had been doing. Everything looked in order. The main thing on my to-do list today is to give my neighbor a spare key. I also plan on walking out each morning with my phone and my keys in hand just in case.

Storytime Friday

Emily has started doing writing assignments in class. I thought I'd post one each week. I haven't changed any of the spelling, punctuation or capitalization from the original story.

I woke up today and I couldn't believe my eyes. I had turned into a turkey. At first I didn't know it, but I found out when I looked in the glistening mirror. I was alarmed when I found out I had transformed into a small turkey. I was even more startled when I realized I had a wattle.

My kind mom still made me go to school. I began to worry. At school, I sure caused a commotion!

Since it was almost Thanksgiving, it began to bother me that I might be killed and eaten. To make sure it wouldn't happen, I stayed at home for a long time.

Soon I got tired of being a turkey. I went to see a wizard. The wizard turned me back into a girl by waving his wand and saying the magic words. (I don't remember them.) I never forgot that stunning time.

Hurray for Snow!!

The girls went back to school today after having two days off because of snow! Monday morning, we woke up to 4 inches. Sarah didn't remember the snow from last year so she caught onto Emily and Eliana's excitement and ran around the house with them shouting, "SNOW!!". All three of them went out right after breakfast. Eliana and Sarah came in about 20 minutes later for hot chocolate and games by the fire with Andy and I. Emily stayed out there until lunch time. Here are some pictures from that day:
